Events

As a committee member, you will help encourage people to join and activities to bolster members of the temple as need arises. This includes sending out Yahrzeit notifications and get well soon cards. You will greet and welcome our congregants and other attendees at events. This will be done using training recommended by our Security lead. Committee members reach out and welcome new members. Committee members will also reach out within other local organizations to find potential new members.

Membership & Caring

This committee focuses on attracting new members and taking care of the
members of the temple.

The prime Membership focus is to be welcoming when a new face comes
to services or activities. Being prepared to welcome people includes
awareness training. We need the ability to sense when someone is friendly
as opposed to those who have darker motivations. Our Security leader and
committee are focused on helping us be aware.
Outreach also helps us attract potential members. Reaching out
individually to acquaintances or fellow members of other local groups who
might be unaffiliated Jews is effective. Representing Temple Solel at events
of community interest gets the word out.

Caring efforts fall into two areas:

1. For the congregation as a whole, sending out Yahrzeit notifications
and get well soon cards. Please let a board member know when a
major illness or injury strikes, or if a Yahrzeit needs to be added to
your membership data.
2. Some members don’t drive anymore or seldom drive – and social
isolation can be debilitating. Temple Solel is beginning a new initiative
to reach out to those members every few weeks. That can be done
with phone calls, texts, emails, visits – whatever works for both
members. Please let a Board Member know if you are in need or are
willing to help.

Ritual And Education

Members of this committee are responsible for ensuring the spiritual health of our temple. This includes working with the Lay Leader to prepare the religious aspects of our regular services and holidays. This committee is also in charge of developing opportunities in which Temple Solel members can learn more about Judaism and Hebrew. The lay leader gives personal B'nai Mitzvah training to our youth members.

Social Action

This committee will recruit volunteers for and run our events helping the local community. These include providing meals at Community Cafe and the Bethel Mens' Shelter as well as gathering food donations for the Fort Mill Care Center. To ensure these wonderful things get done, we need volunteers and donations. Committee members will ensure that each event has what it needs.

Finance

Members of this committee will work closely with the Treasurer in reviewing and developing the annual budget, financial statements, and the temple’s investments. A major role is to encourage donations and philanthropy. This committee already has all the specific roles filled, it doesn’t need as many volunteers as the other committees.

security

The primary goal of the security committee is to keep everyone safe. This includes instructing members of the membership committee in The Power of Hello techniques to greet and screen people. The Security committee coordinates with the York County Sheriff's office for security at Temple Solel events. Security Committee Members would also lead, should an emergency occur, including directing attendees to building exits. Security Committee members are provided additional training to be prepared.
